Today, we'll explore the importance of commerce in facilitating exchange and creating wealth. Riveting, I know; but when you begin to understand the scope and scale of commerce, and how it touches every living thing, and every aspect of our existence, you’ll discover how important you are in making a change in the world around you.

Commerce is the exchange of goods and services, one of the most fundamental elements of any society. Commerce allows us to trade what we have for what we need or want and enables us to specialize in certain areas and trade with others with different skills and resources. This specialization and exchange allow us to be more efficient and productive, ultimately leading to an increase in wealth and prosperity.

Commerce is an abstraction of transactional relationships, and those relationships are the beginning of serendipitous interaction between new and unexpected people. Real, live, people!

The world meets each other in a harmonious middle ground — be that the corner store, an Uber Eats delivery, or an Amazon purchase.

The word “commerce” is synonymous with exchange, trade, and even relationships. But it's also a word that many people don't think about until they need it — until something goes wrong and they have to navigate the "business world" (whatever that is). Has anyone ever said aloud, “I need me some Commerce? Probably not.

But commerce doesn't just happen on its own — it requires people who are willing to engage with one another, who are willing to share their skills, knowledge, and services in the spirit of building relationships and creating a more prosperous society for everyone.

But commerce also serves another vital function - it allows us to come together and connect with one another. When we engage in commerce by exchanging goods or services with others, we are building relationships and networks with others which can be beneficial for personal growth just as much as professional.

When we engage in commerce, we are building relationships and networks with others, which can be beneficial for both personal and professional growth.

As you reflect on the role of commerce in society, remember:

  • Commerce is a fundamental part of any society. It allows us to trade what we have for what we need or want and enables us to specialize in certain areas and trade with others with different skills and resources. This specialization and exchange allow us to be more efficient and productive, ultimately leading to an increase in wealth and prosperity.
  • Commerce also serves another vital function — it allows us to come together and connect. When we engage in commerce, we are building relationships and networks with others, which can be beneficial for both personal and professional growth.
Today our meditation affirms that the world depends on your work, and your work is important to the success of society.
